Nerding in Canteen
This comic reminds me of an incident in the canteen with two of my classmates and a junior.
It started of by my junior claiming that the integral of sin(x) was a finite value. Obviously, sin(x) is a oscillating function (technically i think they call it diverging but i like to oscillating instead as it is'nt really "diverging" in that sense). Seniors won!
Then my friend said. "Sorry, I mean (sin(x))^2." Again, seniors had to win!
He checked his notes and exclaimed with a wide grin, "Sorry, I meant sin(x^2)". All the three seniors fumbled this time. Well i guessed it had a finite value. I had hypothesized that the curve would cover 2pi faster and faster as x increased and hence the function was oscillating with smaller wavelengths each time. We graphed the function just to double check and it was true.
2 minutes later, all of us realized how nerdy that discussion was. Intriguing yet nerdy. We couldn't tolerate each other's "nerdy-ness" any longer and thus split up that second...
